What is an e-coach?

As part of its preliminary research activities, NESTORE conducted a review of academic resources around "virtual coaching". The review enabled partners to refine their own definition of intervention techniques and coaching strategies for people to adopt healthy lifestyles.

An e-coach is a system able to provide personalised advice to the person using the e-coach (the 'user') based on collection and analysis of the user's data. The e-coach uses a set of behaviour change techniques that guide the user to increase or maintain his or her wellbeing. An e-coach is further able to build a sense of companionship and to dialogue with the user while supporting him or her to stay on track towards the completion of his or her personal goals.

The above definition will be discussed and reiterated with users involved in NESTORE co-design activities.
